Clay is a naturally occurring fine-grained soil material formed through the long-term weathering of rocks, particularly those rich in feldspar. Composed mainly of hydrous aluminum silicates like kaolinite, illite, and montmorillonite, clay has been used by humans for thousands of years due to its plasticity when wet and strength when dried or fired.
